HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ONE AND ONLY MRS. KO KO LOUISE!
Last weekend we played shows in Detroit and Toledo at bars well past 2:00 a.m.
This weekend we’re playing at a school in the middle of the afternoon.
The Hard Lessons, The Thornbills, and The Barrettes Ladies Barbershop Quartet all have members working at Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan’s oldest independent school. Originally located at the site of the Renaissance Center and made possible in part by the Beaubiens (yeah, the Detroit Beaubiens) ASH has a historical marker in Detroit and Bloomfield Hills, where it currently located.
The entire show will take place between the hours of 2 & 5 p.m. so don’t be late!
1250 Kensington Road, Bloomfield Hills
Enter off of Kensington and come in through the main entrance there and head to the Auditorium. All ages of course and refreshments galore… all proceeds from the paltry $5 entrance fee go to the school’s sound system.
What a weekend! Thanks to the Metro Times Blowout for letting us put together a bill of amazing bands (and friends) to help us continue our 10-year anniversary celebration! And of course, thanks to Ryan Bunch and all at Artomatic 419 for a great early show in Toledo on Saturday and all who stayed up late with us at Mickey Finns-Pub Sunday morning!
The bands: Timothy Monger State Park, Kickstand Band, Silent Lions, Golab, Mod Orange, Twine Time, This Severe Lifestyle, and more!

Over they years we’ve played some crazy shows at the Metro Times Blowout. They put us on the cover for the first time during Blowout, and we’ve been fortunate enough to play 6 amazing shows - including our last before baby hiatus. Now check this out:
Friday, April 26
Small’s Bar, Hamtramck

The next night we are VERY excited to be traveling back to a city that has rolled out the red carpet for us time and time again, even if said carpet is a little sticky and covered in cigarette butts. Of course I’m talking about the fair city of Toledo:
Saturday, April 27

Artomatic 419 After Party w/ Romans!!!
ATTENTION PEOPLE WITH CURFEWS OR CHILDREN OR JOBS:
The above baby was made by Korin and Augie. He goes to bed before both of the aforementioned shows, but he will be in attendance when we play this early afternoon show at a school! We present a little something for everyone!
Saturday, May 4

As a part of our 10th Anniversary, we are returning to the Metro Times Blowout at Small’s Bar in Hamtramck! More details to come, but this year’s festival will be spread across Detroit, Hamtramck, and Ferndale. Get your wristbands now!
You diehards out there may have noticed that 2013 marks TEN YEARS of The Hard Lessons! We are digging through the archives to provide you tasty treats, including the above photos… and our first LIVE album ever! Information on that as well as some anniversary shows to come.
THANKS FOR HELPING US MAKE IT TO 10!!!
Despite being in the eye of the worst snowstorm to hit Detroit in recent memory, we managed to make it to both UHF Records and the Magic Bag to celebrate our 7th Annual Post-Christmas Blowout with die-hard fans from near and far! WE LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH and this year has been one of the most memorable of our near-10-year career. Believe it or not, 2013 marks a decade of The Hard Lessons!!!
A HUGE thanks goes out to our friend Michael Spleet for once again shooting the show. We first worked with Michael when he shot us for SPIN Magazine back in 2005! The photos from the in-store performance are courtesy of Mitzi Lawrence Schwabe, who has participated in all SEVEN shows of this annual tradition in some way.
Woodman, Mod Orange, and The Thornbills were all fantastic as well. Thanks for helping us end 2012 right. We will see you in 2013! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
